This Sunday’s Christmas Service

This next Sunday (Dec 20th) is a HUGE day for Church of the Heartland - South Bend. It is our first Sunday to have 2 Sunday services. From now on we will have 2 identical services on Sunday morning, one at 10 and one at 11:30. Each of these services will also have Kids With a Mission (our children’s church) and Kids With a Mission Jr. (our nursery ministry) at each service.

Last Sunday we were packed to the rafters. I don’t think there were any seats open at our 11:30 service. It was kinda funny actually Watching everyone try to navigate to and from the seats and the aisles was interesting to say the least. I’m glad Heartlanders tend to be easy going and patient

It is also our special Christmas BIG SUNDAY service. Its a great time to invite people to experience God at our church. And we will actually have room for them now. We have a lot of great family Christmas stuff planned and a couple of cool surprises too. So, invite a friend and we will see you next Sunday!!!

Spiritual Father : Billy Joe Daugherty

On Monday, My Mom, Dad (Pastors Herb and Sandy Hiatt) and I will be at the funeral of our spiritual father, Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty of Victory Christian Center Tulsa. He was graduated into Heaven at the age of 57. I have a couple of thoughts I would like to share with you today.

- When I think of integrity, I think of Billy Joe Daugherty. Not one skeleton in his closet, not one “indiscretion.” A life lived as an example for others to follow.
- Look at what can be accomplished when a pastor and a church, keeps loving people, loving their city, and loving the Lord. Wow!
- What joy. Even through very hard times, he always kept his joy. I can hear his laugh even now. This overflowing joy shows the true man that was on the inside.
- When other churches would put their finger in the air and do the next big thing, Victory continued to do what God has told them to do. Changing with the times, but not letting the times determine their mission.
- Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty always walked in a leadership and humility that others could grab a hold of. He was a friend to pastors and leaders everywhere.
- And one overwhelming sense to seek and to save that which is lost. He was the real deal. He would witness personally, invite people to his church, pray for the lost in his city, support and go on world missions, and model what evangelism is personally and in a church. There are thousands in Heaven because of his passion to see people come to Christ.

What an incredible legacy Billy Joe Daugherty leaves us. One of integrity, leadership, and godliness. I am so grateful for what he did for our family and our ministry. And I know that there are thousands, and thousands of us in ministry today because of the encouragement and example of this great man of God.

2 Sunday Morning Services

Church of the Heartland - South Bend is going to 2 Sunday morning services starting Dec 20th (our Christmas BIG Sunday). The new Sunday morning service times will be 10 and 11:30.

These 2 services will be identical and we will have kids ministries at both.

I am so excited about what God is doing in our church. I feel so humbled and honored to be a part of such an incredible church family.

Upcoming Stuff

Here are a couple of things coming up at Church of the Heartland - South Bend.

- Join us on Thursday nights for our Bible study and discussion at 7. It is a great time of getting to know each other better, and learning more about the Bible.

- Tomorrow (sun nov. 1) we are having a carry in dinner after church. Bring a dish, or just bring yourself. Lets connect

- Next Sunday night we are having our annual Project A1:8 missions banquet. Last year was incredible and this year looks to be even better. goto http://projecta18.wordpress.com for more info

- On nov. 15th we start a new sermon series called “Risk - faith, courage, and the guts to go for it!” I really think this series is going to help people overcome their fears and move into what God has for them.

Seed bed for miracles

When things look dark. When you are going through a hard time. When you are at the end of your rope. These are the times where God comes through for you. When you are wondering how things are going to turn around, trust the one who is known for his miracle working abilities.

If we didn’t have hard times, we would never really have a chance for a miracle would we. You see, to have a miracle, you must first be facing an insurmountable problem. So, thank God for your situation. It gives God a chance to do what He loves to do. Perform a miracle to you, in you or through you.

Stuff coming up here at COTH-South Bend

Stuff coming up here at COTH-South Bend

- Join us tonight for a great time of fellowship and Bible study at Ugly Mugs at 7.

- After church this sunday is our crosshairs meeting. “Crosshairs” is the name of our team that makes things happen around here. It is open to anyone that wants to be there.

- Pipeline classes on Oct 18th after church. There are 3 classes. 101 for those that are new to our church in the last 6 months or so. 201 for those that are ready to put their hands to the plow here at COTH. and 301 for those that want to know more about what being a leader here is all about. These classes are held at Pastor Heath and Misti’s house on the south side of South Bend.

- Best selling author John Mason will be at our Winamac Campus on Oct 18th at 6:00. Don’t miss this great opportunity to hear a national level speaker and motivator.

- October 25th from 1:30 to 4ish… Flag football fun at O’brien park on the south side of South Bend (on Michigan street). Come and play with crazy people just like you. We will make teams up at that time.

- Nov 8th Project A1:8 Missions banquet !!! Yippee

Life is so busy

Life can be so busy that we forget what is truly important. We run around from here to there, but are we really accomplishing what matters most? I think American culture is busier and yet lazier than we have ever been. I think that we spend so much time doing the wrong things that we are exhausted when it comes time to do the things that are the most important.

So how about you and I slow down a little bit today. Lets talk with people and not have something else on our minds as we talk. Lets give others our full attention. Lets look for relationship building opportunities to really get to know the people that we do life with everyday.

Well, look out busy week that i am dreading… Here comes someone who is trying to see the forest from the trees.

What we do in the hard times

You can tell a lot about someone by how they react in the midst of the storms of life. For most of my life I have overreacted to the problems that I have faced over the years. Lately though, I have started to see that God has really got my back. He is holding me up. He is the strong tower that I have trained myself to run to when times are tough.

What we do in hard times says a lot about you. Do you overreact like I used to? (and still do from time to time) Do you run to a person before you take your problem to the Lord? Do you internalize the whole thing and slowly die on the inside? Or do you take it out on the people that are closest to you?

Lets learn to rely on Jesus. Lets train ourselves to… Rise up, speak to the storm, and say “peace be still!”

Death Spiral Kickin off Sunday!

A sermon series I have been working on for about a year is kickin off Sunday! Its called “the death spiral.” We are using aeronautical analogies to talk about how and why some people crash their lives. We will also be looking at how Israel’s first king, Saul. Crashed everything in his life because of his insecurities and fears.

Hope to see you there for these services. I think we are really going to help people find who God made them, and help them uncover some hidden things in there lives.
