Some recent thoughts

Some recent thoughts that are rolling through my head…

- Michael Jackson was a very talented and very tormented man. I kinda feel sorry for him. I think God puts gifts in people, and he wants us to use them for his glory.

- God is doing some great things at our church here in south bend. We were packed out last Sunday We are praying for what to do with all of this growth! What a great problem!

- I am really excited about being an assistant coach on Hagin’s football team again. Just a cool time to be with my son.

- I am still constantly thinking of how incredible our recent trip to Uganda, Entebbe, East Africa was. I think our missions work is some of the most important thing we do at Heartland.

- I don’t mind the cool weather. I prefer it to 90 degrees any day.

- Our new daycare is opening next monday. The place looks great, and we are looking forward to being with all the great kids that will be coming.

Foundations Child Care is ready to open

Foundations Child Care of downtown South Bend is ready to open!!! We just passed our final inspection which puts us ready for our launch date of July 6th, 2009.

Foundations Child Care is the newest ministry of our campus here in South Bend. It is located on the first floor of the JMS building (the same building that our coffehouse is located in.) Its a great place for parents to take their kids because of the location being so close to where so many people work. This way families can see their children for lunch, and be better connected with them throughout the busy work day.

It also gives our campus some much needed Nursery and Kids Church rooms. I love the idea of church space being used for other things all through the week. I think it is the best way to be good stewards of the property God has given us. Our sanctuary is a coffeehouse and our kids rooms are a day care. Everything is used everday to reach, and love people in our great city!

Thanks to all the Heartlanders that got these rooms ready. You know who you are The place looks great! Even the regional inspector said that it was a great location and that we should do really well. Praise The Lord!

Back From Africa

We are back from Africa, and I have to say it was completely amazing. Some stats…

- First kids camp in the city of Entebbe, expected 150 or so, 400 kids showed up

- First youth camp in the city of Entebbe, expected 75 or so, 130 showed up

- 2 day Training for youth and kids workers was awesome. Leaders were impacted and encouraged.

- Pastor and leadership conference was incredible. Over 500 came for at least one session and we had anaverage of 85 at any given time. Some of the leaders had traveled over 12 hours to be there.

- Tons of outreaches and connections made into the community

- Lots of time spent with our children that live in our new children’s home (Grace Children’s Home, Entebbe Uganda). While there we changed the name from orphanage to children’s home because in our hearts these children have families now. They are no longer orphans

It was so great to see what Pastor Williams (Grace Uganda) had accomplished since i was last there. We had a great time. The team was incredible and worked together so well. I am so blessed to be a part of something as great as Church of the Heartland.

Thanks to everyone who made this trip possible for all of us. The fruit was truly incredible.

Prayer for Charissa

Charissa Heeter from our campus was recently in the news. While she was shopping at the family dollar a car that was leaving the parking lot went into the store, smashing through the entrance and hitting Charissa. She was seriously injured as the car ran into her, crushing her legs. Praise God she is recovering at memorial hospital at this time. It was truly amiracle that she is still alive. God is good.

She has had to have extensive surgery on her legs that were broken in many places. Anthony and Charissa’s daughter Lily is doing ok too. Praise the Lord, she has only minor cuts and bruises. Brionna (niece) is also recovering in the hospital with a injured spleen, but is expected to be fine as well.

Pray for Charissa and the Heeter family. They have been a tremendous blessing to our church.

Leaving For Africa

I am so excited! This Monday (June I will be with a team of 14 Heartlanders and friends who will on a mission trip to Uganda, East Africa. I am so excited to return, I can barely contain myself.

We will be doing a lot of leadership training and workshops, as well as daytime kids and youth camps. This trip is going to be an incredible time of outreach and Kingdom development. Did I tell you I was really excited

We will be returning on Monday June 22 and could really use your prayers.

Updates And Such

Here is an update of things that are going on!

- Foundations Child Care is coming along. Thanks to everybody who is working so hard on these rooms.

- Summer in the Heartland is about to begin. I am excited about all the fun summery stuff we are going to be doing together.

- Join us for Heartland United this Thursday at 7:00. And yes, I will be there

- We have our Next Generation Graduation this Sunday. We will have cake, presents for graduates, balloons, and a special time of prayer. The next generation graduation is where we have our nursery kids graduate to kids church and our kids church to youth and from youth to adult church.

- I am back from my motorcycle trip to Missouri with bugs in my teeth, sunburnt skin and a huge smile!

- I am leaving for Uganda in June. Pray for me and the entire team that is going on this trip.

I am so excited! Check out the newest poll that says that for the first time since abortion was made legal, more americans are pro-life than pro-choice. The truth is finally starting to sink into the hard heads of American voters.

Monday Morning Reflections

Yesterday was a lot of fun.

Hagin and I made breakfast in bed for Misti (and Mia). Then my dad asked me to speak at COTH-Plymouth and I had such a great time there. Then a light-hearted and uplifting service in South Bend. And a little nap in the afternoon. Awesome.

God is with us peeps. We are living in the favor zone. Stand strong with your feet placed firmly on God’s Word and you are going to make it through every storm.

Our New Rooms

Hey Friends,

We have a great opportunity here at the South Bend church. Our new rooms are ready to be remodeled and painted. Ugly Mugs is in the South West corner of the JMS building, and now we will also be in the North West corner of the bottom floor as well. These rooms will be so great for kids ministries on Sunday mornings as well as the daycare ministry that we will have to those that work and live near downtown. The ministry possibilities are nearly endless.

Here is the plan. If you have some time, it would be great if you could help us in the remodeling of these rooms. They don’t need a lot of work, so if we have a lot of us helping, we could have this project done in no time.

Here is the list of things that need done…

- Install white vinyl fencing in the playground area. Approx. 100ft. of fencing.

- Install door buzzers on two of the outside doors for security and safety of our kids.

- Cut holes for windows into the rooms for room to room windows for natural light and connection. At least one on the north wall of each room. Approx. 3’ x 5’ or so.

- Take new tri-fold brochures and hand them out in the office buildings around the downtown area.

- Cut thin plywood, then sand, then paint and screw into the existing awning for outdoor signage. Robert from Biker church is a great painter and will do painting of sign.

- take down door to second area near bathroom.

- remove shower from backroom. Cut the wall by shower down to 3 feet or so.

- Install new sink where shower was.

- install new vinyl flooring after new sink installed

- Paint the walls a different much lighter color to make the rooms feel bigger and more expansive.

Well that is the lion’s share of what needs done.

We can get this place up and running in no time with everyone’s help.
